Nvme or a expansion card for more sata ports

Featured Replies

Hi all upgrading my server and discovered that I am losing sata ports 8 down to 6 , so I am left with a 1Tb cache ssd and a 120 Gb vm/docker ssd to fit into one spare port. So wondered if I should just get a nvme and problem solved or go for a pcie-sata expansion card, any help ?

Thanks

Have you recovered your lost SATA ports?

sorry they weren't lost in that sense, my bad phrasing, my old mb had 8 sata ports and i was using 7 of them, in a rush to upgrade to new mb i then found out that it only had 6 ports. Got round it by connecting one of the ssd drives by a usb adaptor and when up and running i used mc to move the files onto the nvme and after removing that ssd and running a parity check everything seems to be okay.

Thanks
