K1LLA_KING_KING
NOOB to servers / NAS's here I have all the hardware to build this PC server except the drives, so what is the best setup I can do with (approx) 8TB drives? 8TB seems to be the best size for price per TB (in my location anyway) Server use: video / photo media storage with frequesnt use from video editiors and PC's backup 1. Im looking at the Toshiba N300, is a NAS drive recommended or not relevant? 2. Is there any place a X300 (desktop drive) for its performance benifits? 3. What is the ideal size parity drive? Should this drive be bigger or smaller or just the same as the main drives? 4. Whjat is the best drive type for the parity drive? im not including any questions about NVME, as this will be handled by a 1TB NVME for cache TIA Edited May 24 by K1LLA_KING_KING Quote Link to comment
trurl
No data drive in the array can be larger than parity. Quote Link to comment

caplam
you need to be more precise. First thing is to estimate your storage needs (present and future). After that you can choose your drives according to the number of sata, sas ports on your server. For me (in france ) the best price/capacity ratio drove me to upgrade my array with 16TB exos drives. 1 Quote Link to comment
