help - stalled parity swap procedure - thx in advance!

Featured Replies

hello,

having an issue with a parity swap procedure --

i had a drive say it was bad, tried to reconstruct it - failed again, so i replaced, but only drive i had left was  a 14tb, and my parity was only a 12tb, so i had to use the parity swap procedure https://wiki.unraid.net/The_parity_swap_procedure

-- when i came back to check it a few hours later, 17% of the copy process was done, when i check ed the next morning, still only 17% done - and it has just stuck there.

not sure what i should do -- i have attached diagnostics  -- please note - i'm sorta an idiot when it comes to this stuff -- ie i know just enough to be dangerous

thx in advance for your help, as i'm a bit nervous on how to best proceed

Parity2 dropped offline, because of that there's no SMART, replace cables and post new diags.

Yes, data should be fine, but you'll need to restart the parity swap procedure form the beginning.

thank you so much for your replies!

a follow up question if i may.....

I only use my unraid servers for data storage, ie, they only run when i'm uploading or downloading files -- i've been having issues over the past year or so with unraid telling me i have a bad drive (red mark)  - when i remove the drive, all the hard drive tools i use say the drive is good (see attached as an example)

i'm pretty nervous about going in and replacing my sata controller, as it seems like that's where most of my recent probs are coming from -- but if i need to do so, i will.  that's just a bit above my skill set.

just trying to fx this solution once and for all :)

thoughts for best way to move forward for the long run?  in the meantime- i will boot down, replace the sata cable and re-start the parity swap procedure

thx again for your help!

The controller you are using uses a non recommended Marvell chipset, they are known to in some cases drop disks without a reason, it could also be the reason parity2 dropped during the copy, so if it's a possibility would recommend switching to one of the recommended LSI models.

Thank you so much for the help!

when i took off the case, i realized the sata controller hooked to the malfunctioning drive was a multi pin breakout cable (1 to 4 breakout Internal Mini SAS to SATA Cable), so i had to order a replacement.  will update when it comes in.  i'll try replacing the cable 1st, but i'd like to go ahead and order a replacement card, if they aren't too expensive as well, to go ahead and have a backup piece of hardware.

I guess i should mention that i had some one much smarter than me set all this up. I am only used to dealing with the web gui and know nothing about setting anything up via direct access / old school c prompt kinda stuff :)

Sooooo.... i'm a bit confused about which sata controller i need to purchase that will fit my old old Motherboard, as it looks like the 4 port obne in your updated list won't work for this MB.  I'm not very smart when it comes to hardware.

thx again for the help and perhaps suggesting which card i should get to replace my current one that will fit my MB?

You can get an 8 port LSI, those can be found used pretty cheap on Ebay.
