japilch
I need a 3-2 drive cage currently have an icy dock MB453SPF-B installed - and want to add another cage in the space available in my case . I am not sure about another icy dock - as under extreme load the discs hit 40 C ...... are there any alternative that users can recommend? I have looked at 2 a Norco SS-300 - which looks to have been recently discontinued but still available on ebay - it only has a 60 mm fan - and it is enclosed in the cage and a thermaltake RC2300101A http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817998145 are there any other good ones out there? japilch
no one has any opinions? The more I look at the thermaltake - I like - the drive cage has a bottom to it that will help in heat dissipation - and a 2 level fan - up to 3000 rpm - it may be a winner - is there some thing about this I am not seeing? mbryanr
I'm interested as well. I found a few that look good. I have an Azza 910 with (2) stock cages. This only leaves (2) slots left...therefore the need for a 3-2 drive cage. That will round out my server and motherboard nicely. Quote Link to comment
jimwhite
I've been using Kingwin 3in2's and 4in3's for awhile with no problems... that is until I bought a mess of Samsung 2TB drives... they're 1/16" shorter than a Seagate and don't quite make a good connection. Had to tape a piece of 1/16" lexan to the front of 16 drives! Quote Link to comment
PeterB
...I bought a mess of Samsung 2TB drives... they're 1/16" shorter than a Seagate and don't quite make a good connection. Had to tape a piece of 1/16" lexan to the front of 16 drives! I don't have any 2TB, but my smaller Sammys appear to be the same length as my WD drives. In any case, my iStarUSA trayless cages have substantial springs on the door to push the drives into place - I don't think that 1/16 would cause a problem. Quote Link to comment
jimwhite
You would think so.... but the Kingwin's have a spring loaded SATA connector (presumably to boost ejection) and it takes a substantial force just to fully seat the connector! Quote Link to comment
