Passing through TOSLINK connector from Mainboard to Volumio VM

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I have issues using my VM to output sound using the host system's onboard Toslink connector. Since I'm fairly new to unraid, I would appreciate any advice.

The VM is running volumio, a music server. Volumio is running properly and has successfully catalogued my network shares into its music index. However, I'm unable to get it to output music using the system's mainboard Toslink connector, which is hooked up to my stereo system.

Sound output works fine if I boot Windows on the same system. So I know the issue must lie with Volumio or Unraid.

This is the mainboard the unraid system is running on. The CPU is an Intel Core 5 5690K with 4X4 GB of RAM.

I am attaching a screenshot of the VM's relevat hardware settings. It is my understanding that hardware needs to be passed through to the VM. However, neither of the two options provided fixes the issue of volumio not producing sound via Toslink.

Of course, the issue could also be with Volumio - I'm attaching a screenshot of the relevant setting there as well.

You'd have to tell me what sort of diagnostics and how I can produce it, I'm fairly new to unraid.

I created the VM as a standard Linux VM.

Do you mean the unraid System Devices tool? I'm attaching a screenshot. The selection of the two audio devices, as well as the PCIe ACS Override setting being enabled, are results of my previous attempts to get it to work.
