Adding a New Drive - just to clarify

Featured Replies

My array has been working well with:

Parity Drive/ Data Disk 1 / Cache Drive

Now I have a new 2TB so I want to expand my media user share on data disk 2.

Are there any complications to how my shares will be organised or is it all good? Secondly, shall I pre-clear the disk or just add it to the array? I don't want my array to be offline because my Dad's smashing prison break.

Always a good idea to preclear a drive before adding it, especially if you want to avoid 8+ hours of downtime.  I don't know how your shares are organized right now, but adding a new drive should be pretty straight forward.  As long as you leave them on default settings, your shares will span both drives as needed.  Do you have any specific questions about specific share settings?

Well, I've put media share to disk1.

If I delete disk1 from drives will i lose data? I basically don't want to type the disk name each time.

You're going to have to explain what you mean with that line.

Sorry that was phrased really bad.

Basically, under Media user share I have:

Included disks: disk1

I want ALL my disks to be used for the media share. Shall I take out disk 1 or shall i just keep writing in a new drive each time? disk1, disk2 etc.
