SSD as download disk

Featured Replies

Hey,

I have a 128GB Kingston SSD lying around which I don't really use as I already have one in my Workstation and 128GB is just too small for my laptop.

Since I'm building a secondary unRAID server (8 disks) at the moment and I don't want to sacrifice one of those "slots" in the Fractal Design R3 case for a download disk for sabnzbd, I thought adding an SSD would be smart because I would not have to cool it.

Has anybody done this before and can recommend this practice or should I just use an external eSATA chassis and put a normal harddisk in there?

Thanks in advance,

p1lot

Go for it.

SSD's dont build up any noticeable heat.

I have several just stuck inside cases.

Id say double-sided tape or velcro it in, but that might make it hard to return if it dies within warranty. maybe zipties to the side of the HDD bay if you want it secured...

Mine are just loose. for now.

Something like this?  http://www.svc.com/sy-slotraf-2-5.html

Even if you don't have an actual PCI slot spare, if you have a motherboard less than full size you can just attach it to the case (and be careful to support the drive/bracket when you connect/disconnect cables)

OK, thanks guys. I think I will just use double-sided tape.  :)

Expect pics of my build soon.
