Hi,

I changed the hardware from Dell Wyse 5070 to Thinkcentre M715q 2Gen without any problems, Array, Docker & VM comes up as with the Dell HW.

After that, I have the problem that my network connection (WebGUI not reachable) will be lost after several time server is up.

Now I found this topic and Im not sure if I have to install the plugin to solve the problem.

System Devices shows:

IOMMU group 6:

[10ec:8168] 01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8211/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 0e)

Bus 001 Device 001 Port 1-0 ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

MTU on Network Settings is set 1500.

Can I install RTL8168(B)/RTL8111(B) PCI Drivers plugin to solve the problem?

Thanks in Advance

Ah sorry, my mistake.

In syslog I found following entry -> Nov 16 17:23:32 blackhole-drei kernel: r8169 0000:01:00.0 eth0: RTL8168ep/8111ep

Does the RTL8168(B)/RTL8111(B) PCI Drivers plugin work for RTL8168ep/8111ep?

Thanks

NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0 (r8125): transmit queue 1 timed out

tower-diagnostics-20241128-1847.zip

Edited by letrain

I did an upgrade to 6.12.14 and had no network connection, I got the same timed out messages as the post above. I downgraded to 6.12.13 and network came back. I've now removed this driver and upgraded without any issues so there may be a compatibillity issue with 6.12.14. I have another thread on it here with diag and stuff

I've also upgraded without loosing the network (R8125)...

Hi,

Please help me, because I am already tired how to make it work...

I have network 2.5 gb/s -> all devices including NAS.

Without this driver my 8125 realtek nic works as 1 gb/s and I have around 130 mb/s download and upload speed.

After installing driver and reboot I can see some improvement but only when downloading things from NAS to my PC/Mac. I can see speeds around 200 mb/s (probably due to HDD max speeds).

But... when I am trying to copy to NAS I still seeing 130 mb/s max speed... I don't know how to fix this. I have cache with nvme so it should use full 2.5 gb/s speed...

What am I doing wrong?

I have unraid ver. 7.0.0-rc.1. I don't know if this works fine in ver. 6.12.14 or something, because I bought and install this NIC today at the morning.

Help me :)

Regards

Are you sure the share you are writing to has been configured to use cache?

Of course.

1st is Cache, and 2nd is Array.

is there any way to make unraid gracefully reconnect with a usb adapter?  i know usb adapters are not at all recommended for use but i figured i'd ask.

for example:

i don't know what causes this sporadic error but once this happens, the usb network adapter will not work until the entire server is restarted, even though it still is correctly listed in network settings and device list.

i am running on unraid 6.12.8 (i cannot update because i get kernel panics).

Is this driver still available?  It is not showing up in the list of apps shown through the CA plugin.

Same issue as @BurningSky -- updated to 6.12.14 and my WebGUI stopped showing up. Had to use KVM to remove the plugin from the plugins directory and reboot. Now the WebGUI comes up, but it is still pretty unstable. I still get the `NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0 (r8168): transmit queue 1 timed out` messages in dmesg, and the server acts like it can't connect to the Internet -- can't curl github.com, UnRAID Connect plugin says it's offline, etc.

Did you only delete the plugin file (.plg) or did you also remove the directory for the plugin?

Please note that you have to remove both otherwise the driver will be still installed.

Best way to remove the plugin is to do the following form a Unraid terminal (if you have no WebGUI access anymore, otherwise use the remove plugin button in the WebGUI) :

rm -rf /boot/config/modprobe.d/r8169.conf
rm -rf /boot/config/plugins/r8168-driver
rm -rf /boot/config/plugins/unraid-r8168.plg

(copy paste will do the job just fine)

I see, I thought the `unraid-r8168.plg` file was the loader for all the files within the `r8168-driver` folder. Just removed all the files you mentioned and now the server is back up fine and I can curl sites through the terminal. Thank you!

Can you please update the packages with the updated Realtek drivers?

I don't understand, what packages?

Nothing changes AFAIK and @jinlife also doesn't said that he changed anything in the drivers.

All drivers are up to date and the packages are available for all current Unraid version.

For what Unraid version should I rebuild the drivers?

I use your driver-plugin (that's what i mean with package) with my latest 6.12.14 unraid and a Realtek 8125 interface.
Your plugin version 2024.04.04 based on driver version 9.013.02.
On the linked website there is mentioned a new driver version  9.014.01 (2024/11/06). That's the reason i asked for an update of the plugin.

The plugin version is not bound to the driver version, even if the plugin version is behind years the packages will be up to date.

However what I can see is that I compiled the packages for 6.12.14 about 3 weeks ago:
grafik.thumb.png.57b9e7d4ad00c12074743bbd48ee2025.png

...and @jinlife updated the repo about 4 weeks ago, so the packages should be up to date as you can see in the date from the assets, so to speak 2024-11-14, therefore all packages/drivers are up to date and in sync with @jinlife's repo:

grafik.png.ebd3d711e71f43293ad249af5a1c595b.png

EDIT: If I download the package and run a modinfo on that module (I have to do this because I don't have the plugin installed) then I get of course version 9.014.01:

Ok, thanks for your explanation :)

I wonder why in my unraid the version 2024.04.04 is shown as "latest".

As said above the plugin version is not the driver package version.

The plugin version is indeed 2024.04.04 however the plugin just pulls the driver packages from the releases section from GitHub and installs the drivers on boot for your current running Unraid version.

If you upgrade your Unraid version the plugin (or the Plugin Update Helper) will pull the new driver package from GitHub, the plugin version stays untouched.

You can browser all releases from the driver packages here:
https://github.com/jinlife/unraid-r8125-r8152-driver/releases

6.12.14 is based on Kernel 6.1.118 so to speak this exact release:
https://github.com/jinlife/unraid-r8125-r8152-driver/releases/tag/6.1.118-Unraid

You can also do this from a Unraid terminal and you will see the driver version:

modinfo r8125

Ah, cool - thank you again. In my case there is shown 9.014.01, indeed :)

I bought a new Motherboard (Asus Z890 w/ Ultra 7).  It comes with an unknown Realtek 2.5G NIC.  I am trying to start from fresh install.   When I boot up, I get the "Device "eth0" does not exist" error.  So I cannot proceed to web app.

Any suggestions on how to load the plugin via USB on another computer(windows)?

My goal is a run this in high c-state (low power) most of the time.  Should I buy a PCI-E intel nic or something else?   Or should I just return the MB and CPU and go a different direction?

Add more context

I just removed this Realtek R8125 Plugin in preparation for Unraid OS version 6.12.14. My transfer speeds did take a 10% hit after removing the plugin. But, the update to the new unRAID OS went fine. So far, I've done this on one of my nine unRAIDs. Now I just need to do the same thing for the other systems.

I have been using your rtl8168 driver for ages , including with unraid 7 beta until beta4.
Since upgrading to 7rc2, i have unstable network. "timeout" message showing in the console.

Is there something i could do except downgrading unraid ?

Have you tried removing the plugin to see if the built-in driveer now works better for you.

Lower C-States doesn't always mean lower power, this is a common misconception.

Just because a software value is not showing the number that you want to see doesn't mean it draws automatically more power.

I would recommend that you buy something with a Intel based LAN chip which fully supports ASPM but if you buy a addon PCIe card you most likely won't be able to reach C10 <- just as a warning.

The best way would be to buy a Motherboard with a Intel NIC, but they are most of the times more expensive.
