kapperz Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 It looks like the ICY DOCK MB454SPF-B Mulit-Bay Backplane has been discontinued on newegg. I want to replace the fan, but the fan is in a plastic case and the wires are soldered to pins on the plastic case. I have no problem soldering, but can't seem to find an official replacement part. Can I just buy a 80mm fan and solder the wires to the pins? It's a popular backplane, so I'm sure this situation has come up. I did search around before posting. Many Thanks.
Chris Pollard Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 I replaced one of mine with an el cheapo 80mm fan off ebay.
kapperz Posted August 23, 2011 Author Posted August 23, 2011 Response from ICY DOCK We do not have a method of switching the fan on the enclosure to a standard 80mm fan. But, you can buy a replacement fan here: http://www.buywee.com/product_info.php?products_id=160 I like to have spare parts. The fan will eventually start to make noise. Backup data and your hardware..
