New CPU - System won't boot from UNRAID USB

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm running into a problem with the UNRAID USB no longer being recognized as bootable, and I do not understand why. Here is my scenario:

I've recently upgraded my system from a Ryzen 2700 to a Ryzen 5950x. As I did not change my motherboard (or any other component for that matter), I expected this to be unproblematic. I'm using an Asrock B450m Pro4 motherboard, thus the upgrade process included flashing the BIOS. I was running UNRAID 6.9 on this system before the upgrade without any problems.

As far as I can tell everything is ok with hardware. The bios detects every component (including the USB in question). I can also boot into a Linux distro, where I ran a view stresstests to make sure that the system is operating as expected. However I can no longer boot from my USB. I've made no changes to the USB nor the BIOS (other than flashing it). Any thoughts on what might be going wrong? I'm thankful for any help.

Make sure UEFI boot is enabled with Unraid, if the flash drive has an EFI- folder rename it to EFI.

The folder is unfortunately already named "EFI"

Then confirm the flash drive still boots on a different computer, if it doesn't recreate it, or use a different one.

recreate

A new install with a copy of the config folder from your flash backup

I'll do that. Thank you

I've now tested the USB with a different system. There Unraid boots without any problem. :/

Where does the boot stop?

Thank you so much for your help! I've found the solution (though I don't know why it is the solution).

On a hunch I tried all the different usb ports of the motherboard and there are two, from which unraid boots fine. I have no idea why those two (especially, since these are different ports than the ones I used in the past for this mb and unraid), but right now I'm just happy that it works.
