July 25, 20232 yr 2 Questions. 1. Can I upgrade my Parity Drive while a check is currently being performed? 2. Can I replace a failing drive at the same time as my Parity or should I replace Parity first and let it rebuild.
July 25, 20232 yr I would let the check finish, then replace the failing drive and let it rebuild, THEN replace the parity drive.

I have a very small system, first one. All my drives are 2TB, Parity and 3 others. I just ordered 2 new 4TB drives. 1 for the Parity and 1 for the failing drive. Correct me if I am wrong, but I can't upgrade the failing 2TB with 4TB, until I upgrade the Parity to 4TB first?

Correct. You might be in a tricky spot if you don't have a spare 2tb drive to get things back to normal first. If you remove the parity with a failing drive then you run a very high risk of losing data.
July 25, 20232 yr Read through this parity swap procedure. This will allow you to upgrade your parity and your failing drive at the same time.
July 25, 20232 yr Author Thanks both of you for your help and suggestions. The Parity Check finished and it was able to relocate all the data off the bad sectors and repaired itself. At least for now. I am currently doing a sync/build as the new parity drive is in. I had a free Drive slot so I just placed the new drive in before shutting down the old parity. After this finishes, I will be replacing that bad drive immediately. Again thank both of you, I learned from this expierence.
