V. 6.12.2. Wired speed behavior over 2.5gbe network.

Recommended Posts

Hello. Just built my first Unraid server, I'm just a regular guy, not an IT one, no experience with Linux, been around Macs for...ever.

My network includes a MacBook running Ventura, where I have two ethernet adapters, one gigabyte connected to the router->internet provider, and the other, a 2.5gbe connected with a CAT5e cable direct to a secondary 2.5gbe ethernet card (eth1) in the Unraid server (the primary eth0  is a gigabyte connected to the router->internet provider).

I set up the IP addresses so the 2.5gbes are in the 10.x.x.x range with a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 (MacBook) and /16 (Unraid server).

The gigabit ethernets are in the 196.x.x.x range with 255.255.255.0 subnet masks.

Seems to work fine. I tested the LAN with an app (Lan Speed Test) and the 2.5 LAN is connecting at 1,83GB, which seems ok, since the drives in the array are regular hard drives, 54000rpm. Also have a 256gb NVME as cache pool. BUT...there´s alway a but...

When I transfer a single large file, around 15gb, from the Mac to the array, it goes around 285mb/s.

A folder with 11gb worth of music files, goes around 30 mb/s...with drops to 1mb/s...unberable...

A searched the forum and found this post below that seems to present a solution, which I honestly did not understand...anyways I didn't do anything to my SMB settings, they are the default installation.

Any hints?

André
