UPS Rack Mount Battery Backup

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a rack mountable UPS for server running on a 600W PSU. Most of the UPS's I'm finding are upright (highly rated) or rack mountable (poorly rated). Any suggestions for a good quality UPS that is rack mountable and won't break the bank?

How poorly rated ?

In general, 2U UPS will cover 1000-2000VA, I would suggest you buy some 2nd hand UPS. My three APC UPS over 10yrs age.

Newly APC UPS may not support ACUPSD / NUT management, you will got monitoring issue.

I'm mostly looking at NewEgg and the more expensive, higher watt ones, seem to have 2-star ratings.

You may found some help about buying a used rack UPS.

To be honest, upright type can be lie down, so not must rack type. Those cheaper a lot.

watch facebook marketplace/craigslist/nextdoor, you can usually find an IT office trying to offload old equipment. i've found 50 port poe gigabit cisco switches. server racks with wheels and closing doors for $100. i once went to an IT office that was moving to a new location and scored a brand new 3000va ups with the optional network card for $150 because i was picking up a server rack and asked if he was selling anything else.

if you are buying a UPS used, make sure you check the expiration date of the batteries. if they are old keep the replacement price in mind.

Yeah, my last two UPS also come from those channel, 2200va (free, battery dead only)and 1500va (20usd, battery dead and need electronic troubleshoot )

Below is the 1500va one, I finally remove the bulk AVR transformer because I don't need AVR function as switching PSU are wide voltage support, its weight reduce to less then 2kg without battery.
