Can't access my server via WebUi and terminal unresponsive (crond[1250])

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I am new to Unraid. It’s been a couple of weeks where I’ve tried to make it work, but it’s been quite the journey so far. I’ve had a lot of instability where I would lose access to my server randomly and I would have to hard reset my PC to access the server again.

I recently changed my power supply that was getting old since it had all the signs pointing toward it to be the culprit and I’ve noticed a significant improvement. My server would stay up for 72 hours instead of just a few hours.

However, I still lose access to the server from time to time. The funny thing is that I suspect that the server is still operational because I can still access one of my containers (qBittorrent) and see that downloads and uploads are still working. But I can’t otherwise access the server.

Yesterday when I yet again lost access, I tried to access the terminal directly from the tower and I saw this line repeating itself:

crond[1250] : exit status 1 from user root /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/dynamix/scripts/monitor &> /dev/null

I tried to power down the server with the command but nothing happened. It showed me my server address and prompted me for logging in but when I tried, it didn’t work (see picture below).

Since I needed to access the server, I eventually just did another hard reset and now everything is working again, but I suspect that the problem is going to be back.

Can you help me out and provide me with some guidance? What’s causing this?

If you need any other information, please let me know. Thank you for your patience with me!

Unfortunately there's nothing relevant logged, this usually points to a hardware issue, one thing you can try is to boot the server in safe mode with all docker/VMs disabled, let it run as a basic NAS for a few days, if it still crashes it's likely a hardware problem, if it doesn't start turning on the other services one by one.

ok thanks for looking at the files and the advices! I rebooted in safe mode and disabled Docker (I had no VMs). I will report back with an update. Just FYI I just changed the ram yesterday since I thought this could be a problem as well but I still got a crash this morning.

If it happens to be a hardware related issue, how would I be able to troubleshoot that? PSU and ram is likely not the issue since their new, what would be the next probable target?

Thanks again.

Possibly the board.

So just to provide an update I've been running Unraid on safemode for the last 4 days and for the first time since I started to use Unraid my computer didn't crash. I am now gonna activate docker and try one by one to enable my containers and observe the result. I imagine it's better that I stay on safemode while doing so?

Also, just before enabling safemode, I've noticed this lines on my server : usr/local/sbin/monitor_nchan: line 29: 4799 Segmentation fault pkill -f $docroot/${runnning/:stop/}

(see attached). Maybe this can help?

Thanks!

Unfortunately not really.

Ok so I think I've found the culprit : the qbtorrentvpn container.

I restarted all my other dockers and it's the only one that caused a crash soon after I enabled it. Right now my server is stable with everything enabled except this one.

I use it with the arrs suite. Is it because I have too many torrent seeding (right now I have about a 100)? Should I put limit on actives torrents?

If it helps, here's attached a screenshot of the container settings and the share as well.

Thanks again!

If this container is really the problem best to post in the existing support thread/discord:
