February 19, 200818 yr It looks like the P5B-VM DO is not being made anymore. The listing has also been pulled from Newegg.... Since this was the defacto official Unraid board, I was wondering what the new recommendation is? I am getting ready to build a server and I wanted to make sure I got something supported. I had checked the wiki - but most of those boards are EOL as well. Thanks for any recommendations
February 19, 200818 yr lagoom.com has P5B-VM DO, and just dropped the price a few bucks. http://www.lagoom.com/ASUS_Motherboard_P5B-VM_DO_LGA775/P5B-VM_DO/partinfo-id-569698.html I had no luck with one, and went with an Intel BOXDG965WHMKR, whick is now deactivated, although newegg has one in an open box for $56. IMHO, a solid unRaid motherboard would have 8+ sata, onboard video, cool/lower power north bridge chipset, Intel or Marvel Gigabit Ethernet, full ATX/w at least 3 PCI and a least a couple PCIe The ideal unRaid board I would like doesn't exist as I would want a pair of PCI-X slots on a board that is < $150 and has all the above. I think the hybrid sli/crossfire motherboards that are on the verge of coming out will be a boon to unRaid, which I know sounds odd as what does unRaid have to do with sli/crossfire. Most full ATX motherboards with 8+ sata do not have onboard video. The hybrid sli/crossfire motherboards will have onboard video (to sli/crossfire the onboard with a descreet card). So the future equivalent of the P35/X38/780i/650i boards of today will have onboard video, which makes for many more unRaid choices. Yea, I know it is an alternative to buy a cheap video card and only add it when one needs to get on the box, but that is not the ideal solution and definitely not my preferred. Whether it be unRaid or any other use, I prefer motherboards with onboard video so when I'm troubleshooting I can remove one more "thing" as the possible cause of a problem. For now, it still looks like the P5B-VM DO from lagoom.com is the way to go.
February 20, 200818 yr Author Whups - I thought I had posted this in the motherboards section. My mistake - Mods feel free to move
