Upgrade from 6.9 to 6.12 ... is it safe ?

Featured Replies

I have been running version 6.9.2 for few years now and I want to finally pull a trigger to update to 6.12, but I'm really concerned that something is gonna go wrong and I lose all data.

I have almost 8 disks array + multiple ssd pools, lot of VMs and docker images.

What is the safest way to do it ?

I am on 6.11.1 and is rock solid. Not sure about 6.12 but I am not upgrading anytime soon

So what are using Unraid to do.  If you only have a simple NAS, it should be not be any big problems.  (Remember that delaying upgrades for long periods of time puts you behind the curve so far that many of us have problems remembering if there were any issues that had to be addressed when upgrading.)  The more plugins, VM's and Docker containers you have, the greater the potential for issues.  I seem to recall that Video card plugins are things that have to be addressed.  Complex network configurations have presented problems.

You might be better served by reading the release notes for each up-grade.  You can find them here:

      https://docs.unraid.net/category/release-notes

Then if you have questions about items in those notes, ask them and the Gurus may be able to help you work through them.

EDIT:   I can not recall anyone losing data due to an upgrade.  If you have a backup of your flash drive on your PC, you can always restore back to 6.9.2 in a few minutes.

I have app data, docker image and libvrt backed up ..

Are those getting impacted too ?

I don't have anything complicated, but I have one gaming VM with a NVDA 2080Ti passthrough and 2 nvme passthrough,

Is it even worth risking the update ?
