USB Failing - May Be ?

Hi - so when applying the latest upgrade it failed telling me my USB was most likley failing.

 

Are there any checks I can perform to see if it is failing or do I just take it as read its dead ?

 

Context BTW is that this is probably my 3rd USB in 5 years and this last one was not a cheapy with the idea it would last.

 

I've took a copy as I've not used the new recovery process yet.

 

If it is dead my next question will be whats killing them...
