USB Flash Drive Is Not read/write escalation

Featured Replies

I know this topic has been covered but I already contacted support about this and the automated reply email asked if I needed this escalated then to post in the forums so here I am.

I started getting the error stating that my flash drive was not read/write. In response I ordered a USB 2.0 stick and created a flash backup in preparation for the inevitable since that seems to be the fix with the majority of these cases. I used the USB flash creator tool on the new flash drive with my flash backup zip file. I then disconnected my old USB flash drive from the server and connected the new USB flash drive. Using the GUI, I navigated to the key registration page and noticed that there is no Replace Key option there. I don't ever recall replacing my USB flash drive so I'm pretty sure I'm not within the 12 month replacement window as I have had unraid for a few years at this point. Anyway, I contacted support and they said to expect a response within a few days. I run pfsense on my server so I would like to not have to reconfigure my Internet just to get it up and running for now and then changing it back later. Any chance I can get a replacement key for my new guid sooner?

Also for clarity, it seems the server just won't boot off my old flash drive anymore ever since I disconnected it. I've tried the typical windows methods for getting it back up and running but nothing has worked thus far. So I currently have no working instances of unraid.

Have you checked that there is a licence file off the old USB stick in the config folder on the new one?    That would be required for a licence transfer.

Hi - I had this last week too... ended up buying a new key (thrid one tbh) and transfering but oddly after a format it tested good.

The way I did this was build the new key like it was fresh, remove the key file ( I ended up with 2 as I have a higher licence ), then boot the server and reconnect via My Servers on the control pannel.

Through that it will ask if you want to move your licence as the key your moving from will be black listed and after a couple of screens your done.

The odd thing , and why I popped in, is that some of my shares are now not acting as they should.

Users with read write are finding they no longer have access or just read which I think is fixed by a new password and forgetting on the client machine.

I'm guessing there is a certificate or encrypted store some where it did not like.

Hope that helps.

Looks like support got back to me really quick. I was able to use the new key file they provided for my new flash drive and I've gotten everything back up and running.

Thanks everyone!
