August 27, 20232 yr Hey gang, im usually the guy who googles and fixes it all, or just keeps replacing parts until it works. so i never have ever asked the internet for help. but here we go. 1. made an unraid server last year 2022 on a laptop with a USB JBOD of 8 drives btfrs. this was supposed to be cheap because this whole unraid only backs up my synology nas. 2. my kid snaps the USB drive right out the laptop. so the unraid sits for 8 months 3. summer 2023 i bought a supermicro aoc 3008 SAS HBA and slap it into one of my old H97-i5 4690k 16GB ram 600W PSU PC. 4. moves 8x Jbod drives over and boot up with new flash 5. start parity sync..... power company is doing some work and cuts power.. 6. restart in the morning..... power company is doing some work and cuts power.. 7. restart the next day... largest lightning storm in a decade comes through and blows up my modem, router, switches, and my unraid turned off but was fine.. 8. parity sync errors pretty fast when i start parity sync. only takes a few min for them to pop up. different sectors, but sometimes they are same across scans !? 9. ran memtest86 for 16 passes of every test except DMA experiential which freezes my pc 10. bought a new dell hb330 from ArtOfServer because he test all 8 lanes before shipping.. same result 11. I AM HERE - > about to change my unraid USB, the power supply, after that im gonna build a new pc with new parts. heres the diagnostic, i dont know how to read it so if its something simple.. i just wouldnt know. homebay-diagnostics-20230826-1058.zip
August 27, 20232 yr Community Expert Reboot and run two consecutive correcting checks without rebooting, if the 2nd one still finds errors post new diags.
August 27, 20232 yr Author ill make another starting now.. but heres the last few days of doing exactly that.. and errors continue. homebay-diagnostics-20230826-1058.zip homebay-diagnostics-20230825-1909.zip homebay-diagnostics-20230824-1731.zip homebay-diagnostics-20230821-1644.zip homebay-diagnostics-20230821-0046.zip homebay-diagnostics-20230820-2304.zip homebay-diagnostics-20230819-2210.zip
August 27, 20232 yr Community Expert OK, the first diags I've download had consecutive correcting checks showing different sector errors, first suspect would be RAM, you mentioned running memtest but since that's only definite if it finds errors, first thing I would try would be using just one of the RAM sticks, run two checks and if the 2nd check still finds error try the other stick, again two checks, i still errors this would basically rule out RAM as the problem and you can consider the other possible suspects, like a controller or a bad disk.
August 29, 20232 yr Author so i ran 2 more like you said and i did not get errors on my second wipe.. is the other stick of ram bad? or does my pc not do dual channel anymore? should i just buy new ram? why is memtest86 not able to see this error... im shocked. edit : and thank you.. homebay-diagnostics-20230828-2049.zip Edited August 29, 20232 yr by jgarder
