September 4, 20232 yr As background, I am running 6.9.1 My UnRaid Media Server basic has been offline for approximately one month while i attempted to recover my primary laptop computer (which is where i created the UnRaid thumbdrive back in 2020). I am now attempting to bring my unraid server back online via my secondary laptop. I received an error that said the array has stopped because i am missing the encryption key. I located my email when i originally purchased unraid with the Unraid registration key (which I assumed was the encryption key). clicked the link and saved to the keyfile to the desktop of my secondary laptop. I checked "maintenance mode" and entered keyfile and browsed to the "Basic Key" saved on the desktop of my secondary laptop. It says it is the wrong encryption key. (as further background, I had to wipe and rebuild my laptop but it is still down. If there is a encryption key associated with the creation process somewhere on my laptop. it might be saved in my backup, but i don't know where i should look.) My use of Unraid has been very limited over the last couple years, simply because it "just worked". So I am very rusty and do not know if this is an easy fix or a complex solution. I have attempted to search "wrong encryption key", "encryption key", "array stopped encryption key" on this forum, but the results list did not seem to provide instructions to reload my encryption key (obtain a new one?) and steps to start my array. Please advise if you need any other information I should provide that would help. Also, thank you in advance for any help/guidance you can provide.
September 4, 20232 yr Community Expert Encryption key is only asked if you have any encrypted devices on the array or pool, just enter that key/password next to the array start button.

September 5, 20232 yr Author thank you! I believe the first time i used the registration key and the second time I used the wrong passphrase. I located the correct passphrase and am back up and running! thank you for you help!
March 4, 20242 yr I have this issue, but for some reason, it doesn't accept the passhrase. And I know it's right. Is it possible to change to a keyfile, and I can add the correct password in there?
