Seagate 3TB USB2 External Drive $99.99 @Microcenter

Would it be wrong to yank it out of the enclosure to add to our arrays?

Nope!

If I hadn't just built a new setup 2TB discs....

Recent Seagates (2T+) have been problematic. I would be nervous buying one with a warranty. But buying one in an external enclosure and cracking it open, voiding your warranty in the process, is not something I would advise.

I've opened up about 15 enclosures (Seagate and WD) and checked the warranty status of some of the bare drives.

They all had valid warranties for the bare drives. That's not to say it's the case for all drives, but FYI -- the bare drive may still have a valid warranty.

tempting... but I'll hold off myself.

as far as the warranty, just put the drive back in the enclosure before returning it.

unless there is a sticker that says you're voiding the warranty... are you?

Unless you have to force the case open.

First buy this at staples  by pm price to microcenter and using 25 off coupon. so the price will be 75.
