Restrict access to Unraid shares to specific IP addresses

Featured Replies

Hello,

Is there any way i can restrict access to Unraid shares to only a few specific IP addresses on my network?

We use this at our work for backups and i dont want everyone to be able to see or access the shares.

Normally you would set the shares in question to export : yes (hidden) and security private. Only user names listed would be able to access them, and they would not show up as a browseable share, you would have to explicitly type the share name to connect.

Is there some reason that's not working for you?

That is working fine for me. But i dont want other users on the network to probe or see that this server exists.

But maybe i am over analyzing the situation.

Thats practically impossible on the same network. As @JonathanM said, thats a good way. Otherwise iptables would be a friend.

Not user configurable, no.

If that Unraid server is purely for backup and not being accessed by anyone on the network, would running it on a different network work for you?

eg.  Your main network is 192.168.0.x   Setup this backup server as 10.10.10.x

Then those that you would give access to that backup server would have a dual ip address in both ranges.

I guess then i will just create a separate vlan for the unraid server and then only have the file servers be able to communicate with the Unraid Vlan.
