9206-16e HBA Not Showing Drives in Unraid

Featured Replies

Hey folks,

So i switched to some new JBOD enclosures (https://www.supermicro.com/en/products/chassis/3u/836/sc836be2c-r1k03jbod) for my server and have both enclosures connected to an also new (the old enclosures had different SAS connections) 'Dell TFJRW LSI Quad Port SAS 6Gbs PCI-e HBA 9206-16e' card that is on F/W 20.00.11.00.

It is showing up in Unraid under system devices but will not show any of the hard drives in either enclosure. It does not show any of the drives during boot either.

Not sure what to do here to fix this issue and have my drives populate.

Both JBOD enclosures were tested prior to pickup to test all drive bays and everything checked out (seller was using linux and a different hba when testing)

You should update the firmware since that one is quite old, though unlikely the firmware is the problem, post the complete diags to see if the SAS expander in the backplane is being detected.

20.00.11.00 is old? I have not seen many with F/W this new most are 20.00.07.00. What is the newest version I should be updating to? I will make sure to post the diagnostic logs asap.

a new update is before it was showing no bios, but now it is showing a bios on boot up for some reason.

Sorry, somehow saw that as firmware 11.00.00, partially because I've never seen a 20.00.11, may be worth trying 20.00.07.

Lol no worries at all. I had to move back to my old hardware for the time being to get my server back up and running, but I will try to sneak in an early morning this week when no one is accessing to shut down and reinstall the new HBA and check the diagnostics

I've been doing some digging, It seems according to broadcom, you cant flash a card from a newer F/W to an older F/W unless it is in DOS. Does Unraid meet that criteria? I don't know how to use Linux let alone DOS...

Nope, and I've never tried, but a DOS boot flash drive can be easily created.

Just wanted to follow up on this for anyone who comes across it. In coordinating with AoS, It appears Dell makes some setting adjustments within the HBA to lock it down (typical Dell) that will not be changed if you flash the F/W. I needed to use LSI Utility Tool in order to get in and adjust the settings in order to allow the HBA to see what is plugged into it. AoS has a video specifically on how to do this here:
