Intel E2180 -- Powerful Enough or Overkill?

Featured Replies

Looking to build a second server with that second copy of UnRaid I bought way back when...

Already have the P5B-VM DO on the way.  I have a chance to score an Intel Pentium Dual Core E2180 ridiculously cheap, as in less than $30.  Is this chip powerful enough to run UnRaid and stream HD movies to my HTPC?  Or on the other hand, is it complete overkill for an UnRaid server?

Since I'd be getting it so cheap, overkill doesn't bother me... but just want to make sure I won't be UNDERpowering the thing....

Opinions welcome, thanks!

that's what i just put into my rig...it's definitely not underpowered, as i have no problem with any of my content so far (HD or otherwise)...and once unRAID supports the second core, it'll be even more useful...at $30 i'd say it's a no-brainer...BUY!

That's the answer I was looking for... thanks!

BTW, the $30 deal I'm getting on this is not generally available... if it were, I'd post it in the great deals topic area of this forum...........

If I could have got that deal, I would have done the same.  The lower end C2D are power efficient, so you wouldn't see much difference compared to my Celeron 420 L.
