September 15, 20232 yr I'm trying to set up a Brother MFC-L3770cdw printer to scan files to an unraid share for Paperless-ngx. I keep getting an access denied error. I can connect to the share in windows using the user credentials I set, and the printer *can* connect to the share if I set the share to public (though it tries to ask for a username because one is not set in the printer's scan profile, which is not acceptable UX for my users), so the network folder path appears to be correct. It seems like something is causing Unraid to reject the credentials. I have tried what seems like every possible permutation for the user credential format and authentication, but I must be missing something. Any help would be appreciated.
September 16, 20232 yr I have the same issue but with a new mfc-4535dw. But didn't try to much yet. Have you tested using IP instead of server name for path ? Changing the authentification mode to kerberos?
September 16, 20232 yr Author Yeah, tried using the IP and using Kerberos. One theory I have is that I need to be including a domain in the username field, but I'm not sure what it would be.
September 16, 20232 yr I got it working using the ip, without domains. Might depends on how your server is setup. Buy I suppose if on the same domain, it's not required. Also remove the last \ in the path. ip\path
September 18, 20232 yr Author I have not been able to set up the share as secure or private and get the printer to connect to the share using the user I set up for the purpose. I was able to at least get the user experience I was looking for by setting the share to private (hidden) and using "nobody" as the username. If anyone has any ideas on how to get this working using a private or secure share, please share them. I would much prefer better security than "Not many people have access to this part of the network, but even if they did they would have to already know the network path to the share to access it."
December 29, 20232 yr I had a similar issue with a Brother ADS-1700W, it turns out that the password box in the scanner's web UI has a character limit (33) and my unraid user's password was longer than that. I changed the password to length 30 and it works.
February 11, 20242 yr I just solved this today. It was a permissions issue with the share. I ran the Tool->New Permissions on my paperless-ngx share and it started working immediately.
