September 27, 20232 yr Hi everyone! unRAID 6.10.3 user, as per title I am encountering problems with transfer speeds at 2.5Gbe when the bridge interface (br0) is enabled. I have already verified with iperf3 the transfer speeds, when br0 is enabled I have 2.3Gbps transfers from Client (Windows) to server (Unraid), while in the opposite direction it appears to be stable at 1.18 Gbps but after repeating the tests some times the speeds become pretty irregular (in multiple cases I have seen the first transfer performed by iperf3 reaching 1.9Gbps and then dropping to 777 Mbps in the following. Side note: this irregular behaviour appeared only after the installation of the Tips and tweaks plugin, so I reset the tweaks to default and uninstalled it: same issue with irregular speeds. This morning I turned on the server and had again stable transfer speeds at 1.18Gbps, after a few iperf3 tests it appeared again). On the other end if I disable the bridge from the network settings I have steady 2.3Gbps transfer speeds on both directions, same devices (the negotiation is ALWAYS 2500/2500 Mbps on both ends), same cables, and same interconnection (unRAID <---> 2.5Gbe Switch <---> Windows Laptop with RTL8156 usb3.2 adapter). The motherboard of my machine is MSI B550 MAG Mortar which has the Realtek RTL8125B 2.5G LAN integrated. No other network card is installed. I would disable br0 to maintain said speeds, unfortunately I have a Windows 10 VM that I need to remote desktop into/acts as a moonlight server, so it must be reachable from the LAN. I tried switching to vibr0 as a network interface but unfortunately while it provides internet connectivity the machine now belongs to a subnet that I cannot reach from my LAN since I cannot add custom routes to my router. Does anyone know if there is a solution to this problem? Thank you in advance and sorry if I added too much irrelevant information
September 27, 20232 yr Community Expert This a known issue with Realtek 2.5GbE: https://forums.unraid.net/topic/123594-poor-ssd-cache-read-speed-25gbe/ You can try the Realtek driver plugin but IIRC it's the same: https://forums.unraid.net/topic/141349-plugin-realtek-r8125-r8168-and-r8152-drivers/
September 28, 20232 yr Author Thank you for the answer, unfortunately none of the solutions works, is there any way to disable bridging while still having the VM reachable from the LAN?
September 28, 20232 yr Community Expert Solution 9 minutes ago, aswer said: is there any way to disable bridging while still having the VM reachable from the LAN? Yes, with v6.12.4, see the release notes.
September 28, 20232 yr Author Upgrading to 6.12.4 actually solved the issue, even with bridging enabled I am able to saturate the bandwidth both ways. Thanks a lot!
