problem with new drive

picked up a new drive today and installed it and tried to start the preclear. when i start preclear it just sits at 0% done and current speed 0%. the dot to the left of the device is gray. it will let me try to format drive but it fails with in a few seconds of starting. is my drive bad? brand new WD sas 12tb plugged in to my sas controller card. my other 3 sas drives are working fine. there about 3 weeks old now.
