AHCI controller card not being recognized

Featured Replies

So I'm in the process of completely rebuilding my server.  I'm jumping about 20 years in technology by going from a motherboard cannibalized from a Dell Optiplex 790 (circa 1993) to an Asrock z690 Extreme motherboard and a 12th gen Intel i5 processor.  After a few hickups, I'm at the point where things boot and I can get to the unRaid dashboard.  But I have one hardware problem.  I have nine drives that I previously ran through the mobo SATA and two AHCI cards.  The new motherboard has 8 SATA ports so I retained one of my old AHCI boards.  It's an Asmedia 106x SATA Controller ver 4.2.  On the old mobo the bios from this card would show during the boot process.  With the new one it does not.  I've been through the BIOS on the new motherboard and can't find anything to enable this card.  I've also tried the card in all of the PCI slots on the motherboard.

I also have an Adaptec 1430A controller card and I've tried it with the same result.

I know I'm making a huge leap in tech standards and I'm wondering if AHCI cards like this are obsolete.

Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've attached my diag files but I suspect the problem is before unRaid starts to boot.

This might be the ticket.  Thanks.

I just have to figure out how I'm going to flash the card cause it says it must be done "using Non Intel 600series chipset motherboard".  So that rules out the new motherboard.  And, the old mobo has already gone to the recycler.

Not sure how I'm going to get this card flashed.

I'm also going to look around for similar info for my Adaptec card.

Thanks again.

I also have an Adaptec 1430A card.  The bios on it is v6.0-0 B2322.  Has anyone seen an update that address the Intel 600 chip set?

Adaptec should still work

And yet it doesn't.  I think I have to enable "legacy" devices in the mobo bios but I can't find the option.

That should not be needed, that option only affects showing the Adaptec BIOS, which is not needed for Unraid, never saw a general compatibility issue with that controller and the Intel 600 chipsets, but have seen before issues with one or two specific board models, so it could be that, it's a pretty old controller.

I'll have another look at it tonight.  But I think it looked like the drive on the card was being emulated when i fired up the server.

And as you'll see from my OP "keeping old equipment going" could be my middle name.

And tonight everything looks fine.  I have another disc issue but that's something I can work through.

Thanks!
