My frist Unraid NAS/Plex server

Featured Replies

For years I been using a old Dell windows pc with 2 4tb drives as my plex server, I just upgrade my Itx pc so i got some part sitting around so why not use them for a new NAS/plex server all i use this for is plex and store my back files

CPU - AMD ryzen 2600 (from old pc)

Cooler - not pick one yet probably Noctua

Motherbord - GIGABYTE B450 I AORUS (from old pc)

Ram - corsiar 3000 16gb 2X8gb (From old pc but looking at a bigger kit)

GPU - GTX 1050ti (from old pc)

PSU - notpick one up yet but looking for about a 500watt

CASE - looking at the new jonsbo n3

Storage - not sure on the size 8tb to 14tb 6 or 8 of then see what best price per TB on the day

additional M.2 TO MINI SAS HD ADAPTER

any recommendations of things to look out for when using this setup with unraid

Be sure to read through this:

If all you do is plex and backup storage, then do your wallet a favor and wait with the noctua and ram until you really need it. wink.gif
Also, maybe i misunderstood but are you planning for 8x 14TB drives? 122TB raw storage?

I dont have a cooler so i need something and really it what ever in my budget at the time i want to get best valve per TB that is a good nas drive the go really is 40 TB usable more is just a plus so 5 10tb with one parity drive or 6 8tb with one parity drive

All I want is to keep things and have to delete thing to make room and, also be nice to higher quality versions of my media

Coolers:

Thermalright Assassin - $18 on Amazon.  Likely all you need for a 2600.

Thermalright Peerless Assassin - $35 on Amazon.  I have this on my 5700G.  Overkill, but dropped my temps significantly from the stock AMD cooler.

I have a look at them got to see that fit using jonsbo n3 got to wait a month for that to show up

Looks as the max height for CPU cooler in the N3 is 130mm.  So you will need to look at low profile coolers.  Nothing with a vertical oriented fan will fit.

Was thinking that look at a few blow down style ones atm

Update case has arrived and I sold my old parts to a friend because I found a used 5700g for £110 great deal so this is the new spec

Case - jonsbo n3

CPU - Ryzen 5700g (bit overkill but found at a great price used)

RAM - 32gb crucial pro 3200 2x16

Motherboard - Gigabyte B550I AORUS PRO AX

GPU - none (Plan is a RTX A2000)

SSD - WD Red SN700 500GB NVMe SSD (Plan is to use it for a cache when I go to unraid/TurrNas)

HDD - 2x 6th seagate Barracuda (want 8x 10tb but got what prices are like when I got the money)

PSU - be quiet 600w sfx-L (I did have to remove front panel USB c becuase the SFX-L just that too long)

SFX-L dont fit in the case had to remove the USB-C port and cut down the PCB

Well that at least gives you the option to go with Jellyfin instead of Plex

If that's an option for you because Jellyfin supports the Ryzen 5700G iGPU natively much unlike Plex.

That way you could skip the eGPU

I already pick up a A2000 (£200 on facebook works great) but do want to try Jellyfin see what it like but run it along side plex on the same machine
