First of all I am proud to be part of this community since I have discovered few weeks ago the unraid technology and I would

like to say BRAVO for all the support that can be found in here.

Needless to say it was very resourcefull and helpfull :-D

 

So I have build my own unraid server that is very compact and stylish hehe for less than 200$(included licence)

 

Now I have few questions as there is so much informations that is a bit hard to follow everythings between old and new topics

 

So I will try to be very clear and I look forward for your understanding as 2 weeks ago I had absolutly no idea about unix and all is technical aspect.

 

My basic knowlege : I build hardware stuff like watercooling so I think I have no prob with this part

                              I know a few thing in msdos (basic stuff)

 

What I have done so far:

1)build the server (with prolicense...cache disk etc version 4.7)

2)Set the user root and the share (I think I have grasped the concept...)

3) I have install unmenu and then manualy Sabnzb,python and couch potatoes

4) I have set tunnel vpn whit hamachi log me in (for secure access to share over the internet)

5) I have set ssh via the great "putty" (I recommend to all noob or non noob to use it :-P

 

Now I need to optimise and tweak few things

 

the questions: (I would be very pleased if you can direct me to a link or else an explanation thx)

 

1) Can someone explain to me how to set user account as I only have the root account and I would like for security and administration reasons put restriction for the house users other than myself. If someone can be gentle and explain it to me both way via unraid web interface and consol ,that will be great.

 

2) I had some problems to set sickbeard via the unmenu so I installed it via the consol and I resolved the problem..  by giving to it a nobody permision. IS THIS OK.

 

2.1) Is it normal that after the step above I have a share called sickbeard with autoprosses tv in it. Is it this one I have to use in the set up for sabnzb or else?

For security reason, can I open some port to sab/sick/couch in my rooter for remote access , or will it expose my unraid to danger. If there is another way to acces it (like via hamachi logmein) ?

 

2.2) I would like to have a bit more explanations about the mover script...

 

My needs are to be able to see the download folder of sabnzb (as with vlc you can stream your movie while it's downloading), and then move it to the "Movie" share once completed. So now I have changed the dowload folder of sab to the cache share and the "complete" folder to the Movie Share.

This is working but I don't think I take full advantage of the cache disc and the mover script. I even had to stop the mover script because it was moving everything even if it was not finished and was messingup my sab.

 

I also had to do this because In the cache share i can't see the folders .sabnzb, .sickbeard,.couchpo (I think it's because of the "dot" in the file name)

 

So if someone can show me a way to get what I need I will be very gratefull,

 

I guess this enough for now as I am eager to learn this wonderfull stuff that is unraid

You should be able to create users via the unRAID webGUI.  After you create the user you will have to modify the user shares to give/restrict access to whomever you like.

If it works for you then great.  If you are on 4.7 then running SAB/SickBeard/CP as root should not be an issue.

Opening ports to the outside world is never a great idea. If you don't know what you are doing then I suggest not doing it.  I have a VPN set up on my home network to take care of this situation.

Since you are running 4.7 the only way a folder is ignored via the mover script is if you place a "." in front of the folder name.  This goes for every top level folder and file on the cache drive.

There are some scripts in unMenu that will modify the mover so that folders and files with a leading "_" (underscrore) are ignored.  I used this (and still do) on my 5.0b6a production server.  The mover modify does not work on the later 5.0b7+(ish) releases as there is a different way to do the same thing.  There is a "cache only" feature for a user share now that should keep that folder on the cache drive and not move it. You just have to remember to set it correctly.
