ZFS setup in unraid

Featured Replies

My setup is as follows:

6 * 10tb hdd

2 * 1tb nvme

I wanted the 6 hdd in a zfs2 pool and the nvme's in a mirrored cache.

This is all good, but to start the system I need an array drive? 😧

So I added a 240gb ssd to array just to get it going. However once spun up I see the cache is only applicable to the array, not the zfs data pool, and any apps I try to install want to go on the array with no option to go onto the zfs pool. Is this right?

If I add disks to the array as a zfs storage system, is this the hybrid approach in the docs? In which case is this going to hamper transfer speeds (I run a 2.5 network) or should the cache pick that up as it will be applicable to the array data.

Help appreciated

For the moment yes, but an old flash drive will do.

Depends on how you configure the shares, you can make the pool the primary storage and then use the mover to move the data to the array later.

I was hoping to use cache pool as primary and use the mover to transfer over to the data pool.

If I get the same wrote speeds from zfs pool as I do with cache can I use the cache pool as an app data pool instead?

Thinking have the container data stored on the nvme so the HDDs aren't always spun up.

Currently not possible, should be soon.

You can.
