September 21, 201114 yr Hi, Guys, I have limited space under my desk and I'm thinking about using 2 Silverstone MILO ML3 cases for new UNRAID build. I'm thinking about installing MB/CPU/PSU/RAM etc in one case and modifying second case for 6 x 3.5 HDD only. I know I would loose performance and add power usage but do you have any recommendation how to connect HDD case to main case and how to power HDD case. I'm thinking about running individual USB 3.0 connection to each HDD and eventually if I replace my 3.5 HDD with 2.5 HDD I could power these over USB. Do you have any experience with USB 3.0 on unraid is this possible, do you have other suggestions? Do you know how I can power these 6 HDD with PSU or some other ways, I would need to fool the PSU to turn on without being connected to MB. Are there alternate ways powering multiple HDD? Thanks.
September 21, 201114 yr See here. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=14620.0 Can be done cheaply or expensively. Also you can not use USB as a protected array drive in unraid If youre limited in space. I'd look at a SFF server. It would save you time and headaches. It might come out cheaper in the end. September 21, 201114 yr There is also a Lian-Li case that we (GreenLeaf) uses for our SFF builds. It can hold 6 internal drives and has a DVD 5.25 bay that could be used for another 3.5in drive or 4 2.5in drives depending on how tightly you want to pack it.
