smiffy1989
Deleted my previous thread, changed my setup around and didn't want anyone to get confused. I only get 15MB/s parity sync speeds. My setup is: Mobo: Zotac NM10 F E RAM: Corsair DDR2 2x1GB sticks PSU: Corsair 430cx Drives: parity /dev/sdf 00J99B0_WD-WCAWZ1469241 /dev/md1 /mnt/disk1 /dev/sdd 00MVWB0_WD-WCAZA3130056 /dev/md2 /mnt/disk2 /dev/sdc SAMSUNG_HD203WI_S1UYJ1KZ402027 /dev/md3 /mnt/disk3 /dev/sdh SAMSUNG_HD203WI_S1UYJ1CZ701254 /dev/md4 /mnt/disk4 /dev/sdg Hitachi_HDS5C3020ALA632_ML0220F30U8S5D /dev/md5 /mnt/disk5 /dev/sde 00MVWB0_WD-WCAZA6639096 Disk5 is on a Lycom PE102 (SIL3132) all other drives are on the mobo's SATA ports. Will post SMART and hdparm results soon. Anyone know anything else I can try? Quote Link to comment

smiffy1989
Syslog: http://pastebin.com/nMXJXYvx Its an Atom motherboard: Intel® Atom™ D525 (dual-core) 1.8 GHz Thanks. Quote Link to comment
dgaschk
You'll need to do some diagnostics. See this: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=15225.0 Quote Link to comment
smiffy1989
I triple checked all cables yesterday and all seem fine. Not sure what ATA6 vs ATA7 is and I'm not sure how to check/where to look? Not sure what the DD process is or how to use it. Will try google a little. I have an EARS drive that is unaligned, when parity sync finished I'll zero the MBR and rebuild it with 4K alignment. I can't see that dropping my speeds so drastically, and I have tried a parity sync without that drive and still only got 15MB/s. Quote Link to comment
kizer
Oddly I had a similar problem with ATA2 and I couldn't figure out which disk that was. Of course its not related to your problem other than the naming convention of ATA* and not knowing truely which disk is which. Quote Link to comment
smiffy1989
So parity sync finished. Rebuilding the WD20EARS that was unaligned. Its only going at 15-20MB/s so I guess that the unaligned drive was not the issue. Anyone got anything else to check? How active are the developers on these forums? Would they respond to emails? Thanks. Quote Link to comment
prostuff1
your drives are showing up as sdX so that means unRAID is seeing them as SATA. Check your BIOS setting just to make sure that there is no IDE related mentions in there. Quote Link to comment
smiffy1989
Its set to AHCI in the BIOS, and I can't see IDE mentioned in any other menus. Only getting 9MB/s on the rebuild now, gonna take 3000+ minutes Quote Link to comment

prostuff1
Stop cache_dirs and any other addons that you might have running. I can't tell exactly which ones you have installed from the syslog, but certain ones can slow down the parity check/rebuild. Quote Link to comment
smiffy1989
I've tried that previously and still got the same speeds. Will kill everything again just for good measure! Quote Link to comment
smiffy1989
Still around 10MB/s but upto 20MB/s at times. Quote Link to comment

bcbgboy13
I believe some of these Zotax mini-ITX with "advertised" 6 SATA ports are kind of misleading as they have only two "real" SATA ports and the others are port multipliers. If this port miltiplier is attached to a single PCIe lane or worst to the PCI bus (so they use old and low cost components) you will suffer in parity checks and rebuilds. It will not show up in a regular RAID system as they will write a stripe to one drive at the full speed, then the next stripe on the next drive again at full speed and so on.. In theory it should not affect Unraid in a regular use (normally read from a single drive) or writing to two drives but make sure the parity is on one of the proper SATA ports. However in parity checks and rebuild situations the performance will be affected as Unraid reads from all disks simultaneously. To somehow mitigate the problem make sure the parity and one of the bigger disks are on the proper SATA ports and connect the smaller ones the the "port miltiplier-ed" SATA ports. Or use an extra controller and do not use these at all. Quote Link to comment

Ill try put the parity disk onto one of the two red ports (probably the real ones) and then the rest of the drives on the remaining 4 black ports. Quote Link to comment
smiffy1989
Just spoke to my friend with the same setup and he has his parity drive on one of the red ports and gets 70MB/s+ Will move it when drive has finished rebuilding and re-test! Quote Link to comment
smiffy1989
Drive finished building. Switched the parity to one of the red SATA ports and moved one of my drives off of the on board multiplied ones and onto my SIL3132 PCI-E 1x card. Still getting 20MB/s max Quote Link to comment
