I cannot seem to find specific enough instructions on how to configure my vms to use a static IP address. I just want to set up my VMs to use fixed IP addresses on the network. Please help. Thanks so much.

For all of the devices on my network (including VMs) I just reserve a IP address on my router.

I don't use VMs in UnRaid.

 

Can you log into your router? Do you know what your router is?

Process would be the same as a normal pc you would just set the ip address in windows for example.

 

It is not configured on the host(Unraid)

 

In windows change the ethernet connection from dhcp to static

I approach this by configuring a DHCP reservation in the router, and leaving the OS in DHCP mode.

Note that you can get the MAC address needed for the DHCP reservation from the VM template.

That can be configure in the VM itself, e.g., or Windows go to network settings and set a static IP.

All these answers assume the network interface chosen is bridged to the LAN, but it's possible to use the internal bridge that doesn't get a LAN address.

 

Only way to know for sure is for the OP to tell us what the network settings of the VM template are.

I think I got this working. Thanks for all of the help. I did end up configuring router to reserve IP that it was leasing to the VM. I always thought there had to be a setting or a config within the VM or unraid network settings.
