I just got in my Supermicro MBD-X8SIL-F-O and it has two NICs on it. Obviously I only need one but it feels like such a waste to not use the second one. Any suggestions?

Cover it with a piece of duck tape and forget it is there ;)

But seriously, you won't be able to use it in any way with unRAID.  Unless you have a specific need for another NIC it is not of much use.  If you were running ESXi or a VM on the machine it might be of use, but other than those things it won't do you much good.

I wonder if it's possible to setup the two NICs as  a switch. Then I can route the IPMI NIC to it and just have one cable running to the rest of my network.. I know it doesnt have hardware switch capabilities but maybe it can be implemented in software..

The x8SIL only needs one cable plugged in... even for IPMI.  If the IPMI Ethernet port does not register any connection then it defaults to Ethernet port 1

Ah ok, and this only happens at boot, correct? I just swapped ports but i can't get unraid to come up, only the supermicro login page.
