Need help running Docker container traffic through built-in wireguard VPN

Featured Replies

I'm quite new in trying to understand how Unraid built-in VPN feature works.

My need: I want traffic from my QBittorrent docker container to run through a VPN connection so traffic is hidden from unwanted attention.

Some things I can't figure out, please bear with me:

In Settings > VPN Manager, does this allow me to create a VPN server? Or does this interface allow me to connect to a VPN service? Do I need to be already subscribed to a VPN provider in order to use this?

thanks, I might have follow-up questions depending on the answer, thanks so much for any help.

Hi! Anyone has a hint or 2?

been looking around for answers, but no luck, thanks so much!

Try asking in the support thread of your docker in the Docker Container sub-forum.

Actually it's not a Docker container, it's the Built-In VPN feature under Settings -> VPN Manager

The built in VPN Manager in Unraid is to make a more secure connection to the Unraid GUI.

For connecting QBittorrent and other Dockers through a VPN, you are better off installing a QBittorrent docker that had VPN bundled in it.  Binhex has some nice dockers with VPN and has excellent FAQ documentation for setting it up.  There are also YouTube tutorials as well.

That's not how to do it. Here's how:

  1. Install Wireguard-Client and configure
  2. Edit your qBittorrent app, change to 'Advanced View' at the top left
  3. Set 'Network Type' to 'None'
  4. In extra parameters, enter --net=container:Wireguard-Client
  5. In Wireguard app settings, add another port for whatever your qBittorrent port is*

*this is how to do it for OpenVPN, I am only assuming it is the same for Wireguard.
