14th Gen intel support with Unraid and Plex

Featured Replies

I was recently look into moving my server from a old dell with a 3570, to a up to date intel build.  The original plan was to go with a 13500 and DDR5 motherboard (need UHD 770), but Newegg had a bundle with a 14700k that was cheaper than my original plan.  My question is with the CPU being so new, should there be compatibility problems with Unraid and Plex?

Here's the parts

ROG strix Z790-h

intel 14700k

32 GB DDR 6000

Since the 14th series is a simple refresh of the 13th, I don't think there should be any issue.

Any architectural change that I might be missing ?

I just built a system with the 14700 CPU, unfortunately I am unable to get the iGPU to show up in plex. Did you end up buying the parts and trying it in UNRAID?

- well do you boot in gui mode and dont have another gpu then unraid gonna use the igpu

- also there was a setting to be made, sth like /dev/dri or sth like that i dont remember.

- also you need plex pass docker for the encodig if i remember correctly

What "exactly" does this mean?

Plex does not show the iGPU... for what purpose?

If you mean "for transcoding", then you need a PlexPass and some additional settings at the Plex Docker.

So, whats the Point?

for reference i have just completed a Gigabyte Z790 Elite AX DDR4 with Intel 14500 w/ UHD 770 and i have quicksync running on plex and jellyfin, simply wasn't any need for ddr5 when i had so much spare ddr4 lying around

i added  "--device=/dev/dri" in to 'Extra parameters' in the container adv jellyfin settings, and then enabled quicksync in the jellyfin gui settings

there was some talk about having to enable this into the cmd line but it wasnt required for me?

hope this helps someone

Did you build this? asking because I am having issues, wondering if its MB related.

I am in the same boat here with a 14500, currently struggling to get HDR transcoding working, but everything else does.

I feel like unraid is not recognizing the CPU correctly because it keeps listing it as Alder Lake in the system devices and that also what shows up in Plex.

My CPU is a Coffe Lake R and is listet as "S" - the S was the 8th series so i think its "just" a typo (?)

On the other hand, the 12th, 13th and 14th generations are pretty much the same
