Update Unraid OS to 6.12.5 and the system no longer boots

Featured Replies

Hi there

I just did the update and triggered a reboot - now the system hangs, last entry is

"triggering udev events: sbin/udev adm trigger --action=change"

I have already plugged the USB stick into another port, tested the GUi mode but it doesn't go any further... previous updates & also various reboots ran without problems...

I then restored the last online backup from before the update to the USB stick and unfortunately no change... I'm a bit desperate at the moment and would be very happy about support...

Greetings!

Mike

Does that mean it no longer boots with v6.12.4? Try a new flash drive with v6.12.4, no key needed, just to see if it boots.

I don't have another stick at the moment but I completely rebuilt the USB stick without restoring the backup and Unraid booted with it... then I just only restored the config folder and the system booted as well - I had to reassign the root password but otherwise everything seems to be there and running... is there any way to check what caused this?

Difficult to say now, if it's resolved I wouldn't worry much about it.

Yeah, you´re right! Thanks for help!

I am having the same problem, I tried making a new USB installation and them overriding the config file but it did not work, trying now reverting back to the previuos version of Unraid

I can now confirm that going back to the previous version allows me to boot up my server again

Where did it stop on the boot process?

After updating to the latest version and rebooting it frooze in the "triggering udev events: sbin/udev adm trigger --action=change" message.
I tried rebooting several times and always hanged there.

Here are my Diagnostics

There's an apparent issue with the kernel Realtek 2.5GbE in tree driver if you are using a non default MTU, you should be able to update if you set the MTU to 1500 or use instead the Realtek driver plugin

Had exactly that problem.

I had to rip out my cheap Realtek 8125B 2.5GB Card and it did not hangup at the udev rules trigger anymore. Then set the MTU back to 1500 from 9000 and installed the Realtek driver plugins i needed.

Then i put the card back in and everything works again. Not tested if setting it back the MTU to 9000 now works.

Thx, never thought this could hang up the boot process.

MTU 9000 should still work with the plugin driver, at least it does for me, just not with the stock driver.

Hi,

Can I change MTU on the usb key directly or do I need to downgrade to 6.12.4 to set it ?

You can edit /boot/config/network.cfg and change there.

I just pulled my usb stick out and edited all the MTU's back to 1500.

I had an uptime of over 200 days, on server grade hardware (hp proliant) and I am using a cheapo trendnet 2.5gbe card. I pulled the card and still the boot hung at "triggering udev events"

My 200 day uptime was running on a TRIAL (yes I have a ups and good power) and I just purchased the unlimited license for this machine (will be my 3rd unraid). After purchase I did the upgrade from (i think i was 6.12 and went to 6.12.4

Just booting with the config file changed, will advise.

Man if this was the cause I'm gonna shit a brick.

Edit : Boot hung after "triggering udev events" and now hangs at "device vhost3 doesnt exist". Ill reinstall the 2.5gbe card and see...

Edit2: Now there is a Kernel Panic "not syncing VFS unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)

I will reinstall the GTX 1050 that I left out while trying to solve this problem

Edit3: Yes, changing MTU, reinstalling the Trendnet 2.5gbe card and reinstalling the GTX 1050 has allowed the system to boot.

fuck me sideways
