PCIE 1x to Mini SFF-8087 Expansion Card - Is this essentially the same thing as a SATA card?

Featured Replies

I have read a lot of posts on how PCIe SATA cards aren't really reliable or recommended.
Then, I came across this: PCIE to Mini SFF-8087 Expansion Card

I know it's not a HBA, and have to assume it must be a SATA card hijacking the 8087 port -- but I can't stop wondering if it's a legitimate way to add in 4 additional drives.

Does anyone have experience with this type of card? Are my suspicions of "sata in a 8087 wrapper" correct?

Ugg. I think I put this in the wrong topic. Sorry!

I don't see the chip it uses mentioned anywhere, so difficult to say if it's a good or bad option for Unraid.

Why ? Where ?

There are plenty of SATA controllers recommended :

SAS controllers are ONE option, but not the only one.

Looks like I was wrong and misunderstood.

reading through that thread, looks like it’s multiplier chips that are the issue.

thanks for pointing that out.
