Recovery using old config backup / it wants to reformat one of my drives

Featured Replies

Unfortunately I'm in a situation where I'm using on old configuration backup to deal with a lost USB drive.

One of the drive are showing as this:
"All existing data on this device will be OVERWRITTEN when array is Started"

Is there a way I can start the array and trust the data on that drive, not overwrite it?

Do you know your disk assignments?

I pretty sure the assignments are correct. I think the backup was taken just before drive that's being marked as "will be overwritten" was added.

No option to just take the drive/array as is?  Trust its existing data?

(preferably in a read-only mode to verify things look right, just in case.)

If disk1 is healthy you could do a new config instead, but at least check SMART first, or post diags.

Disk1 one is healthy.

What do you mean "do a new config"?

Tools - New config then check "parity is already valid", start the array, and run a parity check, before the new config it would be a good idea to check that disk1 mounts with the UD plugin, you can do that after unassigning the disk.
