Do I need a drive in array to create and use ZFS pool?

Featured Replies

I'm very confused. I want to use only ZFS pool, however when I create the pool there is no way to start it unless if I assign a device on the array.

Is this by design? If yes, why? How can I start the ZFS pool without spending a device for the array?

For now there must be an array drive. The reason is because it worked that way before ZFS was part of Unraid. There are plans to change that in future versions.

You can just assign a flash drive and not use it for anything if you want

Ok thanks. I was hopping that I could emulate a flash drive but UNRAID doesn't have `usb_f_mass_storage` kernel module.
