New Build 6.12.6 - Extremely Slow first Parity Check

Featured Replies

Hi all, Im fairly new to unraid and have built a new system from a repurposed Dell 720XD

current Specs are

CPU 2 x Xeon E5-2660

RAM - 64gb DDR 3 multi-bit ECC

Perc H710p flashed to IT mode using fohdeesha guide and software.

Config is

Cache - 2 x CT1000P3SSD8 (1TB) in btrfs pool

Array - 20 x CT2000BX500SSD1 (2TB) total 40TB\

Parity 1 x CT2000BX500SSD1 (2TB)

im seeing ridiculously slow parity sync of under 1mb/s with expected 30 days to complete! any help would be greatly appreciated

Also tried running  DiskSpeed, and it hangs on waiting on the first drive.

Diags attached

There's something writing to disk2.

Thanks for the Reply,

I did notice that the mover kicked in. But i Still dont think that is the whole issue? I cancelled mover and have reset the stats for read and write, nothing is currently writing to anything other than parity. The speed jumps from 70 MB/sec down to 12 MB/sec.

Im not sure where to start to diagnose this issue.

I also have another system that I built today, a dell R720. the specs on this one are

CPU E5-2643 @ 3.3GHz x 2

RAM 64 GB DDR3 multi-bit ECC

Perc H310 mini in IT mode

Running 2 x CT1000P3SSD8 (1TB) as ZFS with another 1 x CT1000P3SSD8 as Parity

nvme 1TB cache ZFS

Im confused if its a config error i have done, or if its the HBAs, or these 2TB SSDs, I know they arent great, but would expect more out of them then this?

Attached new diags with mover stopped

I would suspect more the SSDs, these cheap SSDs cannot sustain high write speeds after the small SLC pseudo cache is exhausted, still would expect more than 10MB/s, can also be a controller/expander bottleneck, run the controller tests in the diskspeed docker, so you can can rule that out.

Thanks again for the help.

I can't seem to run diskspeed. When I try run default settings and remove the tick on ssds, I'm able to run, however it just hangs on waiting on the first drive.

I have managed to get rsync to pull files onto the array at 1 GB/sec. Movie files etc. So I think it's capable. Just something screwy I'm missing.
