Sonoff ZigBee USB Dongle and power consumption

Featured Replies

Hi everyone!

I just finished building my first server with these components:

- Gigabyte B760M DS3H DDR4

- i3 13100

- 32GB DDR4 2666

- Crucial P5 Plus 1 TB

- PicoPSU 150w

Everything is perfect (8-9w idle with 2 VM started which is stunning) until I plug in my zigbee usb dongle. The power consumption increases of about 7-8w with no reason at all as the same dongle attached to a Raspberry Pi4 or a Terramaster NAS has almost no impact at all.

I found few users that have the same issue and I was wondering if anyone has a solution for this!

Thanks!

Hi,

I just found out I have the same issue with these components:

- Gigabyte B760I AORUS PRO DDR4

- i3 13100

- 32GB DDR4

- Using Sonoff stick with HA and Zigbee2MQTT

Also power consumption here increases about 7-10W, no matter which USB port I'm using. Also tried some USB settings in the BIOS - no change 😞

I hope we find a solution, otherwise I'm forced to use my Philips hub again, which I just replaced by the Sonoff stick. The Philips hub just took about 1W.

Kind regards

Tobi

Did you found a solution for your problem? I've got same issues with HP Mini 600 G9 with i5-13500t and Sonoff Dongle-E

Hi guys.

I am facing the same issue on my H610i with i3-12100T.

My system is idling at about 11w and reaching c state C8, which is ok for me.

When i connect my "SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus,TI CC2652P + CP2102(N)" stick it just reaches C3 and power consumption is about 20W.

Have you guys found an workaround to this issue?

I have found out that the issue seems to be Intel related because of the USB full speed devices (12 MBit/s), which the usb serial CP2102 chip on the stick is.

Here are some references:

Because i don't think intel will solve the issue quick, here are ideas for workarounds, which i will try:

  • Try every USB Port on the MoBo -> Tested, doesn't solve the issue
  • Use an old self powered USB 2.0 HUB in between -> Tested, doesn't solve the issue
  • Use an self powered USB 3.0 HUB in between -> Tested, doesn't solve the issue
  • Use a PCIe to USB adapter which supports ASPM -> not tested, but probably will not work
  • Use an SLZB-06 PoE network zigbee adapter -> !! Hurray !! That is an workaround!!!!

I have migrated (cloned IEEE) my zigbee network (132 devices) from the sonoff to an SLZB-06 (which has the same zigbee frontend CC2652P and an PoE ethernet port) flawlessly.

The CPU now reaches C8 again!

So yes, this is a workaround and Intel has an serious USB issue there!

Here are the stats with running Z2M conrainer + SLZB-06 (PoE):
