Can't replace failed HDD.

Featured Replies

Running UnRaid 6.12.6 with 6 drives and no parity disk - all 4TB WD Red.

Drive 2 has started to fail and I want to replace it with a new 6TB WD Red drive.

I stopped array, put drive 2 into "no device"

powered down

unplugged 4TB drive

Plugged in 6 TB drive

Powered back on

Go to drive 2 and selected 6TB drive.

At this point I am stuck - as there is no option to accept this change and start the array.

The Array devices list shows 8 disks - but the MB can only handle 6 - so there are NOT 2 unassigned disks.  Nor can I change the slots drop down to 6 (the lowest it goes is 8)

Any thoughts?  Thank you in advance.

Since you have no parity you can't rebuild to a new disk.

If you need to change disk assignments, Tools - New Config.

You might be able to copy files from the failing disk as an Unassigned Device.

Thank you.  I thought that might be the case - but wanted to double check.  This is a backup NAS for my primary NAS - so I will not lose anything - rsync will do its nightly run and it will just take awhile to replace any missing files.
