unRAID for HTPC usage

Hello, I'm looking to make an unRAID server for HTPC usage.

I currently have a small box with XBMC setup on it. Everything is running fine... until the 2TB WD20EARS went out of space :)

Now is the time to think about a server to store all the datas (movies & series, pictures, a few backups).

My unRAID build will have to be able to share its datas to the HTPC (1080p movies via ethernet), but I'll also need SABNZBD & PYLOAD (download manager for newsgroup & megaupload) on it, so the build must be able to uncompress what has been downloaded.

I don't think I'll need a cache drive for my usage.

The build I have came by right now (I'm in France, so its harder for me to find some of the components available in Raj's prototype, but my build is based on the 5th drive one, which can upgrade up to 15 drive):

Mobo: ASUS M4A78LT-M (Dunno yet about this one, it seems hard to find here... I can only find the LE one, is it working fine with unRAID ??)

CPU: AMD Sempron 145 (2.8 GHz)

RAM: Kingston ValueRAM 2 Go DDR3 1333 MHz

PSU: Corsair CX500 V2

Case: Aerocool Strike-X

Drive Bays: COOLER MASTER STB-3T4-E3-GP (cheap, can't afford hot swaps bays atm...)

The build will have 3*2 TB WD20EARS at start. I'll add a new 2 TB drive everytime I'll need one, 15 drives max which is OK for me (12 with the cooler master bays, which will be ok too).

What do you guys think about this build ? Will it be good for my usage ?

Thanks in advance!

build should be fine.  A faster processor will help with the unrar and repairs with SABnzb

Check out my threads in the User Customizations forum for the SABnzb and pyLoad packages.  They should make it incredibly easy to install those applications through unMenu (after you get unMenu installed).

Thx for the reply!

I've already read the pyload/sabnzbd stuff, as I had to be sure for them to work before going to unRAID :).

Will the ASUS M4A78LT-M LE be OK ?

In the hardware compatibility list, there seem to be a problem with NIC, but I can't find more info about it.

The LE version as an Atheros NIC in it if I remember correctly.  Those are usually not good nics to use.  The LE board will work perfectly fine so long as you disable the onboard NIC and then put in an Intel PCI NIC card.

I think I'll go with the "ASUS M5A78L-M LE" for the motherboard. The shop where I want to buy removed the "ASUS M4A78LT-M LE" recently, and the other one is at the same price!

The NIC is also a RTL8111E. From what I've read, I'll also need an Intel PCI NIC card.

I'll also need Wake-On-Lan, will this setup be ok for this ?
