December 20, 20232 yr Unraid Version: 6.12.6 Hardware: https://dl.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_xps_desktop/xps-8700_reference guide_en-us.pdf (with i7 and 32GB Memory) Hard Drives Seagate IronWolf ST8000VN0022-2EL112 Seagate Archive HDD (SMR) ST8000AS0002-1NA17Z Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD ST8000NM0055-1RM112 x2 (emits sound) Problem I recently swapped my unraid setup from a laptop + hard drive enclosure to a desktop. I've rebuilt the array just fine and everything worked using my latest appdata backup but the server is constantly emitting this annoying fairly quiet hum (see video). This hum went away when I was rebuilding the parity drive but came back afterwards. On startup the humming doesn't happen until the Dell logo appears. What I've tried I tried using washers and rubber bands to try to dampen the sound but that didn't work: https://superuser.com/questions/917028/my-hard-drive-is-buzzing . I've tried steadying the drives and the case with my hands but the sound didn't go away. It doesn't seem like an issue of vibration. I tried using hdparm to turn off APM as per this solution: https://forums.unraid.net/topic/27572-solved-beeping-sound/ but all of my drives report back "APM_level not supported" I bought a new 850W power supply to replace the 450W one but that didn't work either: https://www.corsair.com/ca/en/p/psu/cp-9020196-na/rm-series-rm850-850-watt-80-plus-gold-certified-fully-modular-psu-cp-9020196-na. 20231220_111230.mp4 Edited December 21, 20232 yr by Unshackle-Doze-Limeade
