Stanko
Hi All as per title, I experienced a power glitch in my area and now I've lost a 6Tb Seagate drive and an old 2TB Caviar Green is having smart errors (5 and 197). I'm thinking i have no choice but accept the loss of data as I am unable to work out how to do anything with the emulated drive. I understand 1 parity = only one failed can be recovered. I'm hoping there's a trick with an emulated disk that i may be missing. Anyone have any experience or insights? Quote Link to comment

JorgeB
If you are sure disk7 is really dead, i.e., no longer detected, data there may be all lost, you can try using ddrescue on disk12 but SMART looks real bad, still some data should be recoverable, after that you can do a new config and re-sync parity with the remaining disks. Stanko
thanks Jorge. I'm more concerned about getting the disk recognised so that the array can start and then accept my losses. I'll have a play with ddrescue on disk 12. I thought a new config is like a total wipe of the data? Quote Link to comment

Stanko
Hi Jorge, just to give a follow up, After running ddrescue since late December I got to 99.95% recovery and then gave up as rate of recovery had slowed down to like .01% per week. I've now started a new config and my array has started up successfully. I'm not sure whats missing and I'm not too fussed. Very happy to have most of the array back online. thanks so much for your assistance. Stanko 2 Quote Link to comment
