Playback Issues (SABnzbd/Radarr/Plex)

Featured Replies

Hello! Just got my server setup and everything worked/looked great until I attempted to play the movie any other way than from Plex Desktop on my personal PC (our media server is standalone). Attempting to play through Plex on AppleTV or from the Plex mobile app kept giving me the same error after a black screen w/spinning logo: "Playback Stopped: Can't continue playback because the server is not responding." That said, I have the WebUI open for Plex and it shows that the server is fully accessible outside my network.

Afterwards, I attempted to play on my phone again and this time the app gave me a prompt that the server is currently unavailable with a prompt to "Retry Connection" which clicking did nothing. I already attempted to do resets of the apps, etc. and no luck.

Which Plex App?  Any VPN / firewalls involved in your network?

Apologies! Hope the below helps - I am still learning about all of the nuances.

  • Official Plex App (Plex-Media-Server)
  • I configured the WireGuard VPN but haven't set anything to run through it
  • I set port forwarding for 32400 through my router, but that is it.

I'd try it by disabling Wireguard and then go from there.

I did check WireGuard through the VPN settings and it was set to inactive. I should also say that I checked the Plex logs and no errors, but there were some warnings around libusb_init failed and then sending all processes the kill signal and exiting. I tried searching for that and while I found results, I wasn't seeing where/how to actually resolve anything.

@Squid - I was able to do some additional testing/research.

  • Add'l Details
    • Plex container from Hotio
    • Plex server settings show remote access as working, port manually set to 32400
    • ATT (Fiber) BGW Router/Modem Combo
      • IP Allocation is set for the server and so is the port forwarding (found the below when searching to confirm I did everything right - link to the old post here)
      • image.png.b7a7c95f4f846f61d35f3848ec76032b.png
      • The only oddity I see is that despite my server showing as fixed allocation in the IP Allocation page, when looking on the Device List page, it shows my server as having dhcp allocation. I read when setting IP allocation that regardless, dhcp will still be configured on the client-end - maybe this is referring to what I am seeing in the Device List page...
    • Same as before - accessing the server via ethernet works consistently on standalone desktop
    • Phone via Plex app works consistently if my phone is not connected to local WiFi
    • Any attempt at accessing the server via local WiFi (phone, AppleTV, etc.) results in a prompt that says I can't connect to the server or loading post-pressing play takes forever and eventually generates an error about playback issues and connecting to the server.

Aside from the year old post linked above, all my other searches for ATT/Plex issues are about having a separate router and needing to setup IP passthrough.
