December 29, 20232 yr I am currently running Plex in TrueNAS. Works fine, for the most part, but I need to upgrade the hardware. So I am thinking about moving Plex to a dedicated server running UnRAID and Plex. A few questions: 1) Running Plex in a jail is a bit of a PITA. I would like to be able to update whenever I want instead of having to wait for the plugin developer to update the plugin. I assume by running it in Docker, I wont have any issues updating the media server as Plex rolls them out. 2) If I run Plex in a Docker on UnRAID, will it use GPU pass-through and allow Plex to use the GPU for transcoding or is Intel QuickSync my only option? 3) I gave about 40TB of video and music in FreeNAS and for the time being I would like to keep it there. It's accessible via SMB and NFS. I searched the UnRAID forum for NFS and there were zero hits. Does that mean I cannot mount an NFS share from UnRAID? Is SMB the only option? Thanks, --Mike

Plex docker containers often have options for allowing you to update to only public stable releases or early releases as often as Plex pushes them out. It is NOT recommended to attempt update Plex yourself within the container. 1 hour ago, DomitianX said: If I run Plex in a Docker on UnRAID, will it use GPU pass-through and allow Plex to use the GPU for transcoding or is Intel QuickSync my only option? You have both options with Unraid. There is an Nvidia plugin for using a discrete Nvidia GPU within Docker containers or VMs or you can use QuickSync. 1 hour ago, DomitianX said: I gave about 40TB of video and music in FreeNAS and for the time being I would like to keep it there. I don't have any personal experience with accessing FreeNAS data from Unraid but there is a very flexible Unassigned Devices plugin that may give you some options.
