Unraid and 3 mirrored drives

Featured Replies

Hi, I am thinking of biying Unraid for my NAS and I couldn't come across some of the basics of the project I want to do:

I have a lot of not so reliable drives available and a few reliable ones, so I wanted to put two less good one and a good one all three containing the same information (like a triple raid 1, not sure if this has a specific name).

I would also like to put these 3 disks arrays in raid 0.

Is this something that is possible in Unraid ?

I know it is quite a specific use case and I'd be very thankful for any reply :D

You can create multiple 3 way mirrors and raid 0 pools with btrfs and zfs, you can also create one 3 way mirror in the array, assign both parity disks and disk1.

You could put them in a raid0 btrfs pool. But raid0 has no redundancy.

Not really a good idea to use untrustworthy drives in any sort of raid anyway.

This would be the only way, and I still wouldn't do it.

And each parity disk would have to be at least as large as the disk1.

You are speaking truth but as bad as it sounds, for my specific use case and currnt set of circumstances it somewhat makes sense for me, I still really appreciate the honest warning which I will take seriously :D
